How can I use Engage Russia?
It is our goal to secure 12 different churches from around the country who will each commit to a 4-week Engage Russia campaign focusing on a people group or city. Each church will be scheduled to launch their campaign during a different calendar month.
Using Engage Russia in a Church
We are suggesting that churches use the Engage Russia materials in a format similar to this:
~ Two weeks prior to the start of the campaign, posters will be hung around church common areas and Sunday School classrooms.
~ Week One: Show part one of the video — Introduction and distribute bulletin insert (downloadable) with an overview of the people group.
~ Week Two: Show video part two — History & Culture
~ Week Three: Show video part three — Current Baptist work. Schedule live phone, video or Skype call with someone involved in working with that people group, preferably someone in Russia.
~ Week Four: Show video part four — Prayer guide and distribute the 7-Day prayer guide brochure.
Following the month-long Engage Russia campaign we would encourage churches to schedule a trip to Russia to work with IMB missionaries and Russian Baptists to engage the lost in these unreached people groups.
More about Engage Russia
Engage Russia is a strategic initiative of the Russia Field of the International Mission Board which uses comprehensive media to help field missionaries connect with Stateside partners to engage the unreached people groups of Russia.
The
Engage Russia emphasis uses an organic media approach to develop a network of believers who then connect with each other, churches, field missionaries and national believers to bring the Gospel to these unengaged people groups. Currently, the
Engage Russia strategy employs the use of a website (
www.EngageRussia.org), video features, a video podcast, pages and groups on Facebook, Twitter announcements and updates, photo galleries, and print materials (such as posters, seven-day prayer guides, bookmarks, etc.) that are distributed to partner churches. As partnerships are developed, groups may also use Evangelism media to help spread the Gospel message. These materials may include, but are not limited to: screenings of
The Jesus Film in native languages, distribution of Bibles and other literature in native languages, and the creation of new media designed for evangelism.
The Chuvash were the first people group to be featured in this project and more than half a dozen churches have responded — two of which plan to send evangelistic teams to Chuvashia this year.
However, we have identified a dozen other people groups to be spotlighted by Engage Russia. Recently our team traveled to northwestern Siberia to feature the Khanti – a group of around 20,000 semi-nomadic people who are primarily reindeer herders. Production of these features is currently underway. And, over the next month we will be producing several profile features on people or churches who are actively involved with partnerships to show that there is no one specific profile or mold for volunteer partnerships. Through the course of this year we hope to literally travel to the four corners of Russia to feature different people groups in the hopes of bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to these minority ethnic groups of Russia.
The list of peoples targeted for the 2009 Engage Russia emphasis include:
Mordvin (Erzya & Moksha)
Mari (Lower & Upper)
Ossetian
Yakut
Komi (Zyrian & Permyat)
Tuvinian
Romani, Vlach
Karelian
Yurak Samoyed
Altai
